Viva Las Vegas 10 things for Sitecore Symposium delegates to do in Vegas

16 October 2017 | News and Insights

If you’re attending Sitecore Symposium in Las Vegas, here are 10 things to get up to

As ‘The King’, Elvis Presley once said: ‘Viva Las Vegas!’. Casinos, cocktail bars and miles and miles of desert highway.

For many this side of the pond, visiting Vegas is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For others it’s an annual pilgrimage to the world’s greatest casinos. Either way, the city in the desert offers a lot of nightlife, fun and entertainment.

As it’s the location of Sitecore Symposium 2017, here are 10 things to do in Vegas.

Place your bets in the casinos

From blackjack and poker, to roulette and the famous slot machines, there’s no shortage of casinos in the betting capital of the world. If you’re feeling lucky in-between those Sitecore keynotes, head over to the Palazzo Resort Casino, the Bellagio or Caesar’s Palace.

Top tip: the average pay-back rate on slots is 94%. Play the higher-denomination slot machines to beat the house edge.

Take a stroll on the famous strip

If your luck runs dry at the roulette table, take a hike out on the famous Las Vegas strip. The strip’s 4.2 miles of neon lighting, grand hotels and fountains is the picture of quintessential Vegas.

This is when to have the camera at the ready, for those all-important photos of a lifetime.

Touch the sky at the top of the Stratosphere observation deck

At over 350 metres tall (or 1, 149 feet), the Stratosphere Las Vegas is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the USA.

It goes without saying that the view from the top is breath-taking, but there’s also a lot to do once inside. Dining, thrill rides, shops and performers are just some of the attractions available. If you get bored of all this however, there’s also a casino inside – surprise!

Take a road trip…

The USA is the home of the road trip. No trip to Las Vegas would be complete without filling up the tank with gas, putting the pedal to the metal and hitting the road.

There are endless places to visit once on the highway, and time is the only restriction. Our three picks are:

  • The Hoover Dam, Nevada: just 40 miles and a 45-minute drive southeast of Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam has been featured in countless Hollywood blockbusters, with Transformers (2007) and Superman (1978) just a couple.
  • Death Valley, California: this is the lowest, hottest and driest place in North America. So why would you want to go? Because it’s full of abandoned gold mines, ghost towns and houses. It’s a 2.5 hour drive from Vegas – what’s not to love?
  • The Grand Canyon, Arizona: needing no introduction whatsoever and providing some of the world’s most breath-taking views, it’s the Grand Canyon. Take the 45 minutes’ helicopter route to beat the four-hour drive.

…and listen to our Las Vegas playlist on the road

No road trip is complete without a good mixtape to along with it. We’ve put together a playlist of Las Vegas themed songs to get you excited for visiting the city – Listen here!

Talk Twitter with Luke Skywalker

Actor Mark Hamill, most famously associated with playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars Franchise, will be giving a fireside talk at Sitecore Symposium 2017.

As famous on social media as he is as a Jedi master, Mark Hamill will be explaining how he grows and maintains is following online. And let’s face it, there’s going to be plenty of Star Wars-related questions as well!

The High Roller is the famous giant Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip. If the Stratosphere observation deck isn’t your thing, take a ride on the High Roller. You’ll get fantastic moving views of the luxurious hotels, casinos and neon lights.
