Find out where Sitecore and Adobe land on the WCM Gartner Magic Quadrant 2015

The Gartner Magic Quadrant 2015 for Web Content Management (WCM) is a good starting point for businesses researching their web content platform options.

Sitecore and Adobe are still clearly out in front but have swapped their leadership positions from 2014. Sitecore now lead for their Ability to Execute whilst Adobe have edged ahead on their completeness of vision.

Ability to execute covers the vendors:

  • Product/service
  • Overall viability
  • Sales execution/pricing
  • Market responsiveness/record
  • Marketing execution
  • Customer experience
  • Operations

While completeness of Vision is:

  • Market understanding
  • Marketing strategy
  • Sales strategy
  • Product strategy
  • Business model
  • Vertical/Industry strategy
  • Innovation
  • Geographic strategy

Sitecore vs Adobe

Gartner highlights Sitecore’s main strength as its new range of capabilities introduced with SItecore 8. These include highly valuable marketing features like engagement analytics, a/b testing and data management capability. Sitecore has also benefited from its excellent relationship with Microsoft.

Gartner cautions that Sitecore pricing has increased, it has been slow to exploit cloud capability and it has experienced communication issues due to “growing pains”, which should be temporary.

Meantime Adobe has one of the richest sets of WCM capabilities in the market. It’s internal user experience rates very highly.

Gartner cautions against Adobes overall cost which can sometimes be twice the price of Sitecore. It also points to a major gap between what’s technically possible on Adobe and the implementation effort needed to achieve these possibilities.

What does this mean to you?

If you’re an enterprise business it’s well worth evaluating both Sitecore and Adobe to decide which best meets your needs and budget.

Mid-sized businesses have more choice. Sitecore’s still a great pick but you may want to measure it against platforms like EPiServer. Open source options like Automattic (WordPress) are often best for SMEs and those with less complex requirements.

Kagool are one of the UK’s leading Sitecore partners. If you want to find out more about Sitecore then either get in touch to book a Sitecore demo or contact us for more details.
